Without any sense of shame, Marjorie Taylor Greene the Representative from Georgia’s 14th District said:
‘People are not affecting climate change.’
‘You’re gonna tell me that back in the Ice Age …how much taxes did people pay and how many changes did governments make to melt the ice?’
Greene then continued, 'The climate is going to continue to change and there is no reason to just open up our borders and allow everyone in and continue to funnel over $50 billion or however many billions of dollars or trillions of dollars to foreign countries all over the world simply because they don’t like the climate change.'
In response to Greene's assertion about open borders, it is worth considering that the US is partly responsible for climate change and its consequences, such as an expected influx of climate refugees which the hearing was structured to debate.
Additionally, Greene's $50 billion figure is unclear and the current commitment of America for climate aid is only $1 billion.
Her argument that America should not send money elsewhere 'simply because they don't like climate change' is misguided. If Greene is truly concerned about the wellbeing of America, she should be advocating for investing money towards domestic efforts to mitigate and stabilize climate change, as the country is already suffering from droughts, wildfires, flooding and power outages.
But such straightforward reasoning might be a stretch too far for someone concerned with the taxpayers of the Ice Age.
The bad news is that MTG isn’t the only clown in this circus

Senator Ron Johnson (a Republican from Wisconsin) says climate change will be good for the US because it will be less cold. For his 5-minutes of shame, he thinks that global warming will actually be beneficial ...
Why wouldn't we take comfort in that? ... Y'know, concerned if you're in the hot region of Africa ... but we're in good shape."
Channelling our internal Forrest Gump, the only reasonable summation of these two is:
Stupid is as stupid does.
